Dr. Kara Plastic Surgery is the first and currently the only clinic in the Greater Toronto Area to carry the latest model of the CoolSculpting system that has been developed specifically for small volume fat reduction - the CoolAdvantage Petite™. It is the only FDA approved non-invasive fat reduction treatment option designed to target the fatty areas of the upper arms.

Our distinguished staff members have completed thousands of CoolSculpting® treatments and are certified by the Coolsculpting University to perform this unique treatment option. Come in for a consultation and assessment and we can discuss whether this option will help you obtain the results you are seeking!

The CoolSculpting® treatment system freezes the fat cells, so that they die and decompose naturally through your body. Your body will not reproduce those fat cells, meaning those fat cells will be gone forever! This new technology was created to target the upper arms but can also assist with fat reduction on other areas of the body, such as the inner and outer thighs, abdomen and flank areas for patients with smaller body types.

The CoolSculpting® system has been proven to be both safe and effective. The study by Carruthers et. al (2017)1 tested the efficacy and safety of this new technology on the upper arm region of participants. The 12-week study of 30 participants demonstrated that the mean fat layer reduction of the test group was 3.2 mm from the arm at the final testing phase of 12 weeks. The researchers noted, however, that the fat reduction could increase with time, as often in clinical practice, optimal fat reduction treatment efficacy may be achieved following the 12-week post treatment mark.

Study participants were asked to assess the pain of the treatment on a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 being no pain and 10 being the worst pain possible. The overall pain average was 1.0, suggesting that this treatment is highly tolerable in terms of pain. However, pain tolerance may vary. By the 12-week post-treatment visit, all participants reported a pain score of 0.

The side effects immediately following this treatment may include: tingling, numbness, swelling and reddening of the skin. In the Carruthers et.al (2017) study, most of the side effects had dissipated by the 12-week mark without intervention, except for some minor and insignificant numbing in the treatment area that had no impact on normal activity and resolved naturally. Four participants experienced prolonged numbness past the 12-week mark; one participant experienced reddening of the skin that resolved naturally within 15 days post-treatment; and, one participant experienced mild tingling in the finger immediately following treatment that lasted approximately 20 minutes after treatment. There were no serious side effects or unanticipated adverse effects from the CoolAdvantage Petite TM treatment.

Higher Patient Preference

Overall, the new CoolAdvantage Petite treatment option has been proven to be both safe and effective. Additionally, the CoolAdvantage Petite model has been proven to have a higher patient preference as compared to previous models because of the 40% reduction in treatment time, reduced skin tension and bruising.
